Although summer is the season for weddings, winter weddings have a special place in my heart. This moody Winnipeg winter wedding is one that I’m still dreaming about and is (almost!) making me yearn for that time of the year again.
Amanda and Josh were Full Planning clients and they entrusted us with every detail of their special day. They recently became parents to an adorable little one so they wanted to pass off their wedding planning to an expert, and I was more than happy to bring their vision to life. Their hearts were set on a dark, moody, and romantic wedding to complement the winter season. Our goal was to use deep, rich colours and dramatic florals to create an intimate and passionate feel.
Their heartfelt ceremony was held at the Assiniboine Park Pavilion which provided the perfect setting for their vibe. Its natural bright light and simple charm was a lovely contrast to the rich atmosphere that awaited them at their luxuriously cozy reception.
The reception took place in the Concert Hall Ballroom at the iconic Fort Garry Hotel. It was the first time I had ever used this space for a reception dinner, and I am already itching to use it again. With its dark drapes and warm, dark wood paneling, it was the ideal venue for the moody, elegant vibe we were going for.
Their rich colour palette was integrated into each detail of their wedding, with shades of red taking centre stage. Their florals transported their theme seamlessly from the ceremony into the reception, and they took their decor to the next level. With beautiful shades of red popping throughout each arrangement, they created such a stunning and captivating look that the couple and their guests fell in love with.
We layered in texture through luxurious velvet linens and the natural warmth of wood tone accents, such as the cross-back wood chairs. Using both harvest tables and round tables, we were able to use the space in a creative and charming way. The room was candlelit, which cast a romantic glow over the beautiful flower-focused décor.
One of my favourite design tricks is using individual stationery at each seat. Adding menus and place cards, will add dimension and colour to the space and is a cost-effective decor option. Their red and pink colours added a striking pop of colour against the dark table cloths and created a look that was sophisticated and eye-catching.
Amanda and Josh both have a sweet tooth so the dessert station had to be decadent. Instead of a traditional dessert table, we opted for a dessert wall, where delicious treats lined the shelves and created a focal point that guests couldn’t wait to get their hands on. Alongside the wall, we set up a hot chocolate bar, which was a perfect and unique way to indulge this winter evening.
Winter weddings are so underrated, so this moody Winnipeg winter wedding is exactly what is needed to show people they are just as beautiful and luxurious as weddings during the summer season.
