Why a Rural Wedding Venue might be right for you
Choosing a venue can be tough, there are so many things to consider! The first thing to decide is whether you should you have a venue in the city or a rural wedding venue. We want to help you make the decision that is best for you! Here are some things to consider when choosing to have a rural wedding venue!
The Wins:
1. Host everything at one location
With a rural venue, you can host everything in one location as usually the ceremony spot is included in the price when you are booking a reception at that rural property. This not only saves you money but also travel time between locations! A huge plus in our books!
2. Several photo locations
Rural properties usually have several photo location options on site. This gives you a variety of photo backgrounds and options to choose from. It also saves you travel time from one location to the next.
3. On site bridal cottage/suite
Most rural wedding venues have an on site bridal cottage or suite. This means you have a location to get ready in that is photo ready! What a relief to not have to worry about incessantly cleaning your house, haha! It also saves you time and money with your transportation which is a really big deal that most people forget about!
4. Choose your own food style
Rural properties generally require you to bring in your own caterer. You are not limited to what caterer is included with the venue as generally is the case with city venues. This is great news, you could ask your favourite restaurant to come and cater and you get to choose what style of service you want to offer… family-style anyone?!
Other things to consider:
1. To transport your guests or not?
There are some potential downsides to a rural wedding venue to consider. You either provide transportation for your guests which means you are also creating an extra cost for your wedding day or you don’t provide transportation and it can interfere with your party! Another option is to encourage guests to carpool to the event.
2. Bring in your own dishware
Generally you have to bring in your own dishware and some venues even require you to provide your own bartenders. This creates additional rental costs and more vendors to manage. However, a bonus is now you get to add to your aesthetics by choosing coloured cutlery or glassware which adds great visual impact to your design.
3. Mileage fees
Every vendor will charge you a mileage fee to deliver and/or pick up your rental items from a rural wedding venue. This can add up quickly. A way around this is to rent as much as you can from one vendor to limit the number of fees you pay. You can also ask friends and family to help where possible. Everyone loves to pitch in when they can!
4. Transportation time
Another thing to consider is transportation time and how it relates to your vendors! For example, when you hire a planner or photographer you get them for a set number of hours. If you have a photographer for 8 hours and you have them meet you for getting ready photos at home and then go out to a rural venue for the rest of your day you could have just lost out on 1 hour of the time you paid for on transportation! You wouldn’t be getting the best value. This is where the bridal suite comes into play. Take advantage of this and get ready on site to maximize your photo time.
These are just a few of the things to consider but there are certainly more. It comes down to which one outweighs the other for you personally, as a couple! Still not decided?
